Chip Sneed and his family moved to Huntersville in August 2002 with the vision to plant a Presbyterian (PCA) church in the Lake Norman area. Christ Covenant Church (PCA) of Matthews, NC and the Central Carolina Presbytery (PCA) offered invaluable oversight and support during the first few years.
Chip spent many hours in local coffee shops meeting people and bringing together those interested in planting a new church. The vision for NorthCross is based on Acts 11 – God-centered, people-oriented and outward-facing to serve to Lake Norman area.
A small group started meeting in the Sneed’s living room in January 2003 for Bible study and prayer. The first Sunday morning worship service was held May 18, 2003 in rented space in a restored building in downtown Cornelius.
We outgrew that space, and in September 2005 moved to our current location in Cornelius – a warehouse that we have converted to offices, nurseries/classrooms and worship space.
In 2006 we began the process to become a “particular” church – self-supporting, with a committed membership and elected officers. With the blessing of the Central Carolina Presbytery, we held our particularization service on January 14, 2007 and celebrated what God has done in our midst, for gathering us together as NorthCross.
The vision for NorthCross continues to be fleshed out as the gospel is preached and experienced, as authentic relationships develop and grow and the community is touched by the love of our Savior.
