What We Believe

We worship God from the Bible and out of the gospel of Jesus

We understand the Bible to be God's inspired authority for us as individuals and as a community. This means Scripture informs and shapes the way we interact with God and with one another; it gives us the who, why, and how of Worship and of Service. According to the Bible, the Who in worship is God, and the why and how is informed by the Bible. Similarly, because of God's work in our lives we seek to serve Him through faithfully serving all those around us. This is what Jesus was summarizing as the "greatest" commandment, when He began with proper worship of God leading to a proper care for fellow man:

Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” (Mark 12:29-31)

This is our greatest aim, to glorify God through proper worship and from that love of God serve Him and everyone else around us, from the Lake Norman Area to around the world.

We minister to others from the Bible and out of the gospel of Jesus

Simply put, we believe the Bible is God’s authoritative Word and that the most fundamental need for all of humanity is a relationship with Jesus Christ - regardless of race, background, upbringing, or current situation, the Bible says, “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13)

Because what we all need is the love of Christ, most clearly displayed in His death on the cross, we can set our goal as a church alongside the apostle Paul’s: “I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.” (1 Corinthians 2:2)

We worship God and minister to others in “so great a cloud of witnesses.”

(Hebrews 12:1)

Our understanding of the Bible and its central message (the gospel or “good news” about Jesus Christ) is historically grounded in the Protestant Reformation. Therefore, we believe salvation is based on the Scripture alone, by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, all to the glory of God alone. More broadly, this looks like emphasizing our need for God in our lives and recognizing that there is no other name than Jesus by which we can be saved. (Acts 4:12Philippians 2:9-11).

Organizationally, we are Presbyterian, which means we are connected to other churches for the sake of purity and the spread of the Gospel and are locally governed by Elders and Deacons. We are a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America.

Here is a quick, 10-point explanation of the basics of what we believe:

1. The Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God, the authoritative and infallible rule of faith and practice.

2. There is one God, eternal and self-existing in three persons (God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit) who are to be equally loved, honored, and adored.

3. All mankind participated in Adam’s fall from his original sinless state and are thus lost in sin and totally helpless.

4. The Sovereign God, for no other reason than His own unfathomable love and mercy, has chosen lost sinners from every nation to be redeemed by the quickening power of the Holy Spirit and through the atoning death and resurrection of His son, Jesus Christ.

5. Those sinners whom the Spirit quickens, come to believe in Christ as Savior by the Word of God, are born again, become sons of God, and will persevere to the end.

6. Justification is by faith and through it the undeserving sinner is clothed with the righteousness of Christ.

7. The goal of God’s salvation in the life of the Christian is holiness, good works, and service for the glory of God.

8. At death the Christian’s soul passes immediately into the presence of God and the unbeliever’s soul is eternally separated from God unto condemnation.

9. Jesus Christ will return to earth, visibly and bodily, at a time when He is not expected, to consummate history and the eternal plan of God.

10. The Gospel of God’s salvation in Jesus Christ must be presented to all the world as a witness before Jesus Christ returns.
