Our Story
NorthCross Church was founded in 2003 by a group of people with the vision to plant a Presbyterian (PCA) church in the Lake Norman area. Christ Covenant Church (PCA) of Matthews, NC and the Central Carolina Presbytery (PCA) offered invaluable support and oversight through their church planting initiatives.
Chip Sneed was the founding pastor, and he initiated the vision for NorthCross Church based on Acts 11 – God-centered, people-oriented, and outward-facing to serve to Lake Norman area.
A small group started meeting in the Sneed’s living room in January 2003 for Bible study and prayer. The first Sunday morning worship service was held May 18, 2003, in a restored building in downtown Cornelius.
NorthCross Church quickly outgrew that space, and in September 2005 moved to our current location in Cornelius – a warehouse converted to worship space, offices, and nurseries/classrooms.
In 2006 we began the process to become a “particular” church – self-supporting, with a committed membership and elected officers. With the blessing of the Central Carolina Presbytery, we held our particularization service on January 14, 2007, and celebrated what God has done in our midst for gathering us together as NorthCross Church.
In August of 2018, Chip Sneed transitioned out as Senior Pastor of NorthCross, and a search began for a new pastor. Rev. Sid Druen, who had been serving as Reformed University Fellowship (RUF) campus minister at Davidson College, became the second Senior Pastor at NorthCross Church in June of 2019.
In June of 2022, Rev. Sid Druen accepted a position in Charlotte, leaving his role at NorthCross. Dr. Gary Purdy began his ministry as Senior Pastor of NorthCross Church in January of 2024.
